Leisis and I met on Instagram. I think she will agree when I say that it felt like we’ve known each other for quite some time. The ease in talking and sharing our experiences went so smoothly. It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of her work. So I couldn’t resist inviting her for an interview on the Looks of Love. But before we dive into the interview let me introduce her briefly. Leisis is the founder of Angels & Allies. This organization is all about empowering the women of tomorrow by giving mindset workshops for young girls between 7 and 15 years old. You cannot teach them young enough is her motto! Subjects like building self-confidence, exploring self-worth, practicing gratitude and expressing feelings is just a small summary of the topics she works on with these girls and parents. Make sure to check her site: www.angelsandallies.com. She's truly delivering some awesome work. As usual I started the interview with my famous question: “What does love mean to you?”. She took off by saying “for me love is a fundamental spiritual experience, but the funny thing is that it doesn’t start that way. Love starts as a physical reaction in our brain that will set the tone to a conscious dwell so we can become more aware and can exist as a spiritual being. We are the source, … we just need to look, listen, feel and act like it. When we realize that love is an inside job. That the direction is going inside out, putting myself first is teaching the other how to love me in a proper way. It is truly life changing when you understand this process, because then you’ll realize that everything is love. Love is platonic, romantic, even spiritual and universal, but not everyone might experience it like that. You love as a person, as a parent, as a lover, as a teacher, as a human, … love has so many faces". Teaching children at a young age about love and self love is so important. I think the most important way to teach them is by living and breathing love yourself. Showing how unconditionally loved not only they are, but also expressing love towards yourself. Expressing feelings like: “I am so glad that you’re here, I’ve missed you, I am grateful that you are my son or daughter”. You want to overload them with love so they can feel home not only in your house but also around you and in themselves. Through my own experiences I discovered that love and gratitude are such life changers. For me they go hand in hand. There was a time when I struggled with depression. I somehow lost the joy of living. When I hit rock bottom I started to look for ways to feel good again. I managed to do this by changing my mindset, becoming more aware of the little treasures of life. Telling myself I was drinking the perfect cup of coffee, enjoying the warmth of the sun on my face, a hug from my son, … catching every detail that life provided. Being aware of the little things that emerge. For me the formula for gratitude starts with the transformation inside your body. When things shift inside you your outer world will change too. It completely changed my way of life. It was there that I decided that I not only want to teach my children but also other children about this powerful tool inside us. I teach my children to express love by being active in charities, raising money for good causes, donating toys and clothing they don't use, performing small acts of kindness like making kindness stones and giving them to neighbors or people who can use a compliment. The past cinco de mayo we reserved a band and let them play in the middle of the street so everyone could enjoy the music. It was so nice to see everyone enjoy themselves, especially during the whole pandemic. When we all contribute in being kind and spreading loving vibes, the world would be a different place. In the end everything begins and ends with ourselves, including love. We need to look at ourselves to experience a deep sense of loving. Being brutally honest with yourself, but also giving yourself daily compliments and not just about your beauty or body-wise, but on a profound quality of yourself. If we continue to look for love outside ourselves we will never find it or be in the possibility to give and even receive".
